Fluconazole is used to treat a wide variety of fungal infections. It is effective in up to twenty-eight hours and can treat symptoms such as burning, stinging, or discharge. Fungal infections such as athlete's foot usually require no treatment as soon as later are treatable.
Diflucan is also used to prevent and treat vaginal yeast infections in women. It is used to treat thrush (a vaginal yeast infection).
Oral oral fluconazole is given every 8 to 12 hours as needed. It can be given anywhere in the body, including the vagina. The usual dose is 2000 mg once or twice a day depending on severity and why. You may need to take it for 2-3 days. If you do not have treatment, you may need to take fluconazole several times a day until you get the full effect. Take it regularly as directed and do not skip doses or stop taking it as soon as you notice any new symptoms. If you miss a day, take the next dose when you remember. Avoid becoming use to vomiting or diarrhea as these can make them worse. Drink plenty of fluids while taking fluconazole to prevent them persisting. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.
Fluconazole may cause nausea and vomiting. To minimize nausea, take it with some nausea or vomiting. If you experience vomiting or severe diarrhea, stop taking fluconazole and see your doctor. Avoid drinking too much alcohol while taking fluconazole, as it may make the symptoms worse. Fluconazole may rarely cause liver problems. Tell your doctor if you are being treated for liver disease or if you have liver disease. Fluconazole may affect the results of the blood clotting test. Make sure that you get enough rest, fluids, and TABLET (for best results, take it at least 4 hours after the blood clotting test).
